CONFEDERATE RIGDON AND ANSLEY REVOLVER WITH HOLSTER
Item Details
Description
-NO RESERVE- CONFEDERATE RIGDON & ANSLEY REVOLVER. SN 1832. Cal. 36. This gun surfaced in 2013 as a newly found example. It is all original and complete (except for wedge screw) and has all matching serial numbers. These revolvers were made in Augusta, GA. Rigdon and Ansley is one of only 2 twelve stop cylinder guns made in the Confederacy. The other being the Augusta Machine Works, also made in Augusta, GA. This example is SN 1832 and all matched. This is numbered on the bbl, latch, loading arm, cylinder, arbor, frame, trigger guard, back strap and wedge. Just like a Colt plus some. The accompanying holster this gun was found in is made from reused leather and in my opinion was made long after the Civil War but while the gun was still being used. It is quite sound and supple and displays with gun well. It is the leather in which the gun was found. Other than Serial Numbers the only other markings found on this standard pattern are the classic and proper -CSA- stamped on top of bbl flat and a cryptic letter -J- stamped on bottom of the trigger guard. CONDITION: Metal overall gray with scattered staining and pitting. Gun functions mechanically and exhibits good strong rifling. All serial numbers are clearly discernible as is the -CSA- on top of bbl flat. Stocks are sound and solid, slightly shrunk and with an old glued repair along a 2 1/2″ crack. The right stock has a 1 1/2 X 1 inch area by butt that is “eroded” with wood loss that certainly appears to be from its period of use. All screws are intact and original. with the exception of the wedge screw, which is missing. The left ear on the brass back strap is cracked through. Front brass site is beaten down, and looks like a snake. Quite appealing actually.
