Description
4th-2nd century BC. A group of three terracotta fragments: one piece sub-rectangular in plan featuring a human figure in high-relief, head resting on hands which in turn rest upon the knee he has drawn up to his chest; a few details such as toes and hair are discernible, created with shallow incising; a second piece, rhomboidal in shape, featuring a dolphin in high-relief, large eyes and details to the fins executed with incised lines, a 'lip' along one of its sides, possibly an original edge; a third slightly larger fragment also featuring a dolphin in high-relief, again with eyes and details on the fins created with incised lines and depressions; another partial original edge. 26.6 grams total, 40-50mm (1 1/2 - 2"). Property of an English gentleman; formerly the property of a Munich collector; previously acquired in the 1980s. [3, No Reserve]
