Description
Tibetan thangka depicting Lama Dromton with his teacher Lord Atisha and Monastery, 17th century, gouache on cotton, 29.5 x 19.5 inches, in cherry wood frame measuring 37 x 25 inches. Central figure of Lama Dromton (Dromdonpa) wearing flowing robes holding large lotus, he was the chief student of Lord Atisha (Atisa) who is located in the upper left, Red Mahakala in bottom right, blue Acala with sword and lasso at top right, scene on left side likely depicting the Reting Monastery which was founded by Dromton, Atisha's location directly above the monastery symbolizes the continuation of his teachings through Dromton. Himalayan Art Resources item no. 90505.
