Description
Here is a wonderful example of an authentic, ancient Egyptian, complete limestone canopic jar with the head of Qebehsenuef dating to the Third Intermediate Period (19th-21st Dynasty C. 1300-950 B.C.). Qebehsenuef was thought to be protector of the intestines. Lid is from another jar but fits rather nicely with this bottom. I purchased it this way. Lid contains some loss of detail in antiquity but does contain a very faint trace of blue pigment on the top (that I can not capture in the photo). Jar is uninscribed and exhibits an excellent patina and lovely, even surface wear as can be seen in the photos. Complete jar measures approx. 9.25 inches tall and has some very nice weight to it. Staining on the base of the jar is from the museum putty when it rests on its platform (not shown but included). This piece is guaranteed 100% authentic.
