Ancient Egyptian Limestone Canopic Jar Lid of Duamutef, 3rd Intermediate Period. Canopic jar lid of Duamutef, 3rd Intermediate Period. Scarce fragmented lid of a jar that contained internal organs of the deceased when buried. Duamutef was, in ancient Egyptian religion, one of the four sons of Horus and a protection god of the canopic jars. Commonly he is said to be the son of the god Horus the Elder. Rare in any condition, jar lid still boasts impressive detail especially the eyes. Size 4 x 4 x 3½". Provenance: From the collection of Nancy and Earl Keefer.
