Ancient Egyptian Falcon Canopic Jar Lid Late period, ca. 600 - 332 B.C. Size 4-3/4 inches High. x 4-1/2 inches Wide. Carved limestone lid from a canopic jar depicting the falcon-headed son of Horus, Qebehsenuef with defined eyes and detailed beak. Qebehsenuef was the guardian of the lower intestines. Bears small, beady eyes, pointed beak and wears the tripartite wig of authority. A few remaining traces of black painted details around the eyes and wig. Overall scattered mineral deposits and tan-brown patina. Intact. A nice example. Provenance: Private NYC. collection. Acquired at Arte Primitivo Gallery, Auction 38, lot 388, 2007. Ex.
