Description
An ancient Egyptian green feldspar amulet in the form of a wedjat eye.
Late Period, ca. 700-30 BC.
Length: 20 mm. Drilled through for suspension.
The Wedjat eye represents the eye of the falcon god Horus which was plucked out by Seth and then later restored by Thoth. As an amulet it was thought to bring protection and reconstitution. The Wedjat is found on mummies more often than any other amulet, though it was also worn in life.
Formerly in a 19th century Italian private collection.
