Description
A group of 3 Roman silver coins. Lot includes a Republic Denarius of Cn. Gellius, 138 BC, featuring the head of Roma to rt. within a wreath, the reverse with a warrior in a quadriga. (19mm, 3.70g). The second is a Denarius of the emperor Marcus Aurelius, AD 161 - 180, featuring Pax on the reverse. (19mm, 3.25g). The last is a Denarius of the emperor Septimius Severus, AD 193 - 211, and depicts the protective goddess of the city of Carthage, Dea Caelestis atop a lion, water gushing from a rock below. The coin commemorates benefits received by the city under Severus which likely included an aqueduct. (17.5mm, 3.09g). All in nice condition! Ex Chicago private collection.
