Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A collection of 6 ancient silver billon coins that are fused together into stacked groups of 4 and 2 coins due to environmental exposures. These coins are likely from a hoard or sea salvage, as they are held together with sediment concretion with signs of weathering to peripheries. The coin faces visible on the outside of the lumped stack each contain a Roman emperor's bust in profile, including the radiate head of Nero. Size (coins): 1" Diameter (2.5 cm); (large stack): 1.5" L (3.8 cm); silver quality: 77%; weight: 41.9 grams
Provenance: ex-Provos collection, Bremen, Germany, acquired prior to 1990
