**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manabi culture, ca. 500 BCE to 500 CE. A lovely necklace of a wearable form with seven pottery spindle whorl beads displayed in the center. Each bead is roughly spherical in shape with a carination on the midsection, a perforated suspension hole through the body, and a register of abstract avian figures with detailing brought forth with white pigment. The beads are strung on modern red braided thread, and the terminals rest within an adjustable sleeve on top. Size (necklace): 32" L (81.3 cm); (largest bead): 0.5" W x 0.5" H (1.3 cm x 1.3 cm)
Provenance: ex-HDE Enterprise/ Hank Johnson collection, Denver, Colorado before 2000

Condition
Strung in modern times and wearable as shown. Pottery spindle whorl beads are ancient, and red thread is modern. Minor abrasions to some beads, with fading and light losses to original white pigment, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits throughout. Avian iconography is still visible.
