Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manabi culture, ca. 500 BCE to 500 CE. A gorgeous and stylish necklace of a wearable form with five large pottery spindle whorl beads on either end. Each pottery bead is spherical in form with a central carination, a perforated suspension hole through the body, and a register of abstract avian creatures with finer details brought forth with white pigment. The twisted red thread necklace strand can be worn by looping one terminal through the midsection and displaying both beaded terminals in front. Size (necklace): 32.125" L (81.6 cm); (largest bead): 0.7" W x 0.625" H (1.8 cm x 1.6 cm)

Condition
Strung in modern times and wearable as shown. Pottery spindle whorl beads are ancient, and red thread is modern. Minor nicks and abrasions to some beads, with softening to some avian details, and chipping to areas of white pigment, otherwise intact and very good. Avian iconography is still visible.
