Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Valdivian culture, ca. 3500 to 1500 BCE. A hand-built pottery Venus figure presented with delineated legs, sinuous arms fused atop the abdomen, and perky breasts situated beneath the wide neck. Slit-form eyes, a petite nose, thin lips, and plateaued cheeks comprise the minimalist visage, and the head is topped with a tall coiffure boasting incised striations. While the head is uncolored, the chest and lower body are colored with deep red pigment. Size: 0.8" W x 2.9" H (2 cm x 7.4 cm); 3.75" H (9.5 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s

Condition
One leg repaired with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor abrasions and nicks to legs, body, and head, with softening to some finer details, and light fading to original pigmentation. Light earthen deposits throughout.
