Description
Chinese Ming Dynasty Period, Xuande blue & white Bajixiang jar. The porcelain potted in jar shape, having thick potted body, sturdily potted in a bulbous body, ovoid belly on middle gently tapered on shoulder toward prominent, with short neck opening lip, and raised on small round foot base. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white underglaze base color which contrast against the cobalt blue fine color. Blue and white porcelain in Chinese it is called Qing Hua Ci. It is the most important variety of ChinaÂ’s porcelain. It was originated in the Yuan Dynasty. Its color does not easily fade and durability is longer. It used cobaltous oxide as the colorant. Patterns were directly painted onto the inner body and burnt after glaze was applied on it. The main belly decorated with eight Daoist Chinese ornament interspersed scrolling tendril. The shoulder festooned with geometric pattern and auspicious ornament. And the neck adorned with geometric dot, banded and enclosed with single thick ring lines. The Lines of the drawings are clear, the light and dark shades are subtle. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned.

The Under-base bears a reign mark, a six underglaze blue script characters reign mark, enclosed within double fine rings, Made In The Years of Xuande Reign Period of The Great Ming Dynasty.

PROVENANCE: From private collector of The Rimig, by inheritance, private collectors, business entrepreneurs & philanthropies, most items believed to be acquired from BOOKER & LOOMIS Auctions, during late 19th C.
