Nixon Writes to Ambassador Habib During the Latter's Campaign in the Middle East to Avert the Israel-Syrian War

Single page autographed letter signed, 7.25" x 10.5", on Nixon's personal letterhead. Dated "8-23-82", and signed by Richard Nixon as "RN". Fine condition with strong vibrant ink. Accompanied by a typed letter on "Office of Richard Nixon" letterhead stating that the original letter offered is from President Nixon to Ambassador Habib, and requesting that the Ambassador receive it upon his return, 5" x 8", dated August 23, 1982, and signed by Kathy O'Connor, Staff Assistant to President Nixon. Fine condition.

Nixon's letter to Habib dated from the Ambassador's tenure as Ronald Reagan's special envoy to the Middle East (1981-83). In that role, Habib averted an Israel-Syrian War and then negotiated a peaceful end to Israel's 1982 Siege of Beirut.

Nixon's letter displays his appreciation for Habib's achievements and contributions. This rare ALS offers superb content regarding the Middle East, and is shown in full below:

"Dear Phil.

To accomplish even the possible is satisfying; to accomplish the impossible must be enormously gratifying.

Only you--with your combination of intelligence, toughness, skill + patience--could have pulled it off.

All of us who have been privileged to work with you in past join you host of new admirers in extending congratulations--and best... for the year ahead.

Sincerely

RN".
