CHAMPIONNET JEAN-ETIENNE: (1762-1800) French General of the Revolutionary Wars. Commander in Chief of the Army of Italy. Championnet died of typhus at the early age of 37. A good A.L.S., `Championnet´, two pages, folio, Vetzland, 23rd October 1797, to General Lefevre, in French. A lengthy and carefully written autograph letter by Championnet, referring to the letters received from Lefevre from Strasbourg, referring also to General Augereau, and sending a detailed list of concerns and comments related to the North Army and his own troops, stating in part `These troops wear perfect uniforms, fully equipped, are well paid, while our own ones are almost naked, and they have not been paid for the last four months..´ further adding a long list of needs, and forwarding his own thoughts about forming troops. Blank address leaf, with small area of paper loss and a red wax seal in fine condition. A letter of very good content.
