Sarah Josepha Buell Hale (1788–1879) was an American writer and editor most known for being the author of the nursery rhyme "Mary Had a Little Lamb". Hale famously campaigned for the creation of the American holiday known as Thanksgiving, and for the completion of the Bunker Hill Monument.
Hale’s mid-19th century book ‘The Ladies’ New Book of Cookery’ provided the mid-19th-century housekeeper with recipes for scores of singles dishes of meats, vegetables, and desserts as well as offered suggestions for food preparation for children and “invalids”. Includes advice on selecting and preparing foods, combining foods for different dishes, health, and much more. A fine piece!
