Item Details
Description
Letter signed by the Admor Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneerson of Lubavitch, Otwock, 1936.
In the letter, the Admor gives a blessing for the new year: "Among our people on our brethren, the Jews ..."
The Admor Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneerson of Chabad-Lubavitch "The Admor the RYY"Tz" [1880-1950] was the sixth Admor of Chabad-Lubavitch. He became Admor in 1920. In 1927, he was incarcerated by the Communist regime, and after being released he arrived in Poland. He resided in Warsaw at the outbreak of WWII in 1939. In light of the harsh situation, Chabad Chassidim in the United States began attempts to get him out of Poland. With the involvement of senior members of the American government, and with the assistance of the head of German military intelligence, the RYY"Tz and his family and approximately 50 additional people (whom the RYY"Tz requested be rescued along with him) were smuggled from Poland to Riga; from there to Stockholm, and finally to the United States (in Adar II 1940).
