**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A hand-carved and string-cut anthropomorphic figure in a deep mottled green diorite with beige and black inclusions. The figure has a stocky body with a vertical groove delineating the acutely-angled legs, a recessed neck line, and a cylindrical head with string-cut eyes and lips. Applied red cinnabar decorations accentuate the eyes, brow, mouth, and areas of the lower body which imbue the figure with a personalized presentation. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 2.3" W x 6.5" H (5.8 cm x 16.5 cm); 6.8" H (17.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition
Minor abrasions and nicks to feet and top of head, with pecking marks within some string-cut areas, and fading to original red cinnabar. Light earthen deposits and nice traces of original red cinnabar throughout. Old inventory label on verso.
