Pre-Columbian, El Salvador, Mayan, Copador, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A skillfully decorated polychrome bowl, the exterior walls are painted with three large panels containing seated scribes with outstretched arms as if presenting offerings such as treasured books or implements to use in ballcourts of the Copan. Elaborate headdresses and ear spools underscore their elite standing. Between these are glyph panels, and on the interior walls are concentric red and black bands along with a wide register of glyphoids. Size: 9.125" in diameter x 3.625" H (23.2 cm x 9.2 cm)
Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
