Description
Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, Honduras/El Salvador, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A Mayan Copador Swimmer's olla of a rounded form with corsetted upper walls resolving to an open rim, finely painted on the exterior with not two (Hero Twins) but actually three elongated swimming figures (though one swimmer is smaller than the others) occupying the central register framed by an upper and lower band of glyphs, perhaps a representation of the underworld journey, all painted in hues of red, orange, and black on a cream ground. Size: 5.75" in diameter at widest x 4" H (14.6 cm x 10.2 cm)
