Pre-Columbian, Western Mexico, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery "pretty lady" figure standing atop slender legs. Her broad chest boasts rounded shoulders and attenuated arms, and her neck is adorned with a shell-bead necklace. A prominent nose, coffee-bean-shaped eyes, rounded chin, and petite mouth comprise her elegant countenance, and her head is capped with an elaborate headdress with incised linear striations. Traces of original white and red-orange pigment are visible from the neck up, making this an attractive example of ancient West Mexican art! Custom museum-quality display stand included. Right leg and top of head reattached to body with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor nicks to body, arms, legs, and head, with softening to some finer details, and fading to original pigmentation. Light earthen deposits throughout. Nice traces of original pigmentation from the neck up.
