Description
Early 19thc. The wife of Colonel Thomas Harris, the subject of the previous lot by James Peale, a finely painted bust length portrait of a young woman with black curls and off the shoulder dress pinned with roses and wearing a red silk shawl. In remains of fitted leather case, matching the case of the previous lot and from the same collection, with gilt bronze spandrel. 3.5 x 3 in. Condition: Small rub to right margin, but otherwise in good condition. The case worn and damaged with parts lacking. Provenance:The present lot is descended directly in the family of Colonel Thomas Harris, who with his wife, the sitter Ann Gwinn Harris, were residents of Annapolis Maryland.
