AN AMERICAN BAROQUE STYLE MIRROR BACKED FIGURAL CARVED OAK VITRINE, PROBABLY GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN, CIRCA 1885-1895, "D" shape with curved glazed ends and centering a large glazed door separated by protruding pilasters composed of a plaque of carved fruit suspended on bowed ribbons above two addorsed carved figures of Roman soldiers in contrapposto stance attired in a leather skirt and helmet, left hand resting atop a shield with Gorgon head carving while the upraised right hand holds a sack, above a plaque with carved Gorgon head suspending addorsed acanthus scrolls, carved leaf molding, encasing glazed ends and door, the whole raised on hairy paw feet centering a Gorgon mask, the interior fitted with five horizontal mirrored bands within oak frame and mirrored glazing. Stamped "7369." Height: 84" Width: 66 1/4" Depth: 20" NOTE: This lot is ensuite with matching dining table, console, and sideboard, and includes three glass shelves.

Condition

The height of this piece has most likely been augmented an additional 16 1/2", with newer plywood inserted between the feet and the base, In overall good refinshed condition with minor separation and cracking along wood joints, chipping to mirrors, minor overall surface scratching.
