Description
**Originally Listed At $400**
West Africa, Nigeria, Yoruba peoples, ca. early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden figure standing atop delineated legs and wearing a shin-length apron with an exposed posterior. A rounded chest displays an incised navel and nipples, with broad shoulders and attenuated arms on either side. The thick neck supports a rough diamond-shaped head boasting carved eyes, full lips curved into a slight smile, a flush nose, perky ears, and a smooth brow beneath a densely-incised coiffure. The erect posture indicates this is likely an effigy of a deceased individual similar to Ere Ibeji figures, though this example bears a more simplistic presentation. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 3.75" W x 9.75" H (9.5 cm x 24.8 cm); 10.25" H (26 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: ex-collection of the late Peter Arnovick, San Francisco, California, USA
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
