Description
Africa, Republic of Benin, Fon/ Dahomey, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden figure of a female, standing with hands placed just above her ample hips and below her breasts, her visage with closed coffee-bean shaped eyes, a wide nose, and pursed lips creating a serious, somewhat entranced visage, and she is adorned by incised neck rings and an animal hide/hair ornament on her forehead. Size: 9.125" H (23.2 cm); 9.625" H (24.4 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, Illinois, USA, acquired prior to 1970

Condition
Age cracks to torso, lower body, and neck. Expected surface wear with old abrasions and nicks as shown. Small perforation to left hand presumably for attaching ornaments.
