Description
Second half 19th century, 154 x 90 cm, North East Persia, Khorasan
This rare Baluch from the Qainat region has a dark red field decorated with horizontal rows of octagons and cruciform devices, both filled with stars, small octagonal güls and kurbaghe güls. The designs obviously derive from Turkmen models. The white border of diagonal, cruciform floral clusters is a typical feature of rugs woven by this Baluch tribe. A thick velvety pile. A comparative piece has been published by Boucher. – The kilim finishes have not survived, various repiled areas, now in good condition.
