Late 19th century, 137 x 88 cm, North East Persia, Khorasan
This finely woven Baluch prayer rug with particularly elaborate flatwoven finishes is a Jan Beghi tribal weaving from the Torbat-e Haydari region. A large tree-of-life depicted beneath a bridge-shaped arch takes up the whole of the sand-coloured field. Exhibited and published by Engelhardt and acquired from her by the collector. – Minimal repairs, very good overall condition.
