Description
Second half 19th century, 240 x 115 cm, North East Persia, Khorasan
Derived from East Persian urban carpets, the mina khani floral repeat was highly popular with the Baluch nomads, who used it in many variations and always in their own characteristic, geometric style of drawing. This large rug was probably woven in the Kashmar region. The dark overall appearance is brightened by small white flowers placed in the field and the white-ground secondary borders. A Turkmen wavy vine adorns the dark red main border. – Well preserved, includes the original selvedges and the finishes elaborately woven in the sumakh technique.
