Description
second half 19th century, 180 x 104 cm, North East Persia, Khorasan
BOUCHER, JEFF W., Baluchi Woven Treasures. Alexandria, VA 1989, pls. 4 and 5
In the blue-black field, a diamond lattice design encloses large star-shaped blossoms in two shades of red and dark brown. The white border featuring an immaculately drawn Turkmen wavy vine provides an effective contrast to the dark field. The flat-woven finishes with a design of interlocked sawteeth survive at both ends. Two similar rugs from the Boucher Collection are attributed in the catalogue to the Baizidi tribe who lived in the Torbat-e-Haydari region. – Very good condition, new overcasting along the sides.
