Description
A detailed Jamacoaque figural vessel, c. 200 BC - AD 500, hand constructed in a wonderful fashion, with ornate bowl fronted by an elite male gripping his exaggerated, engorged phallus. His features are well-modeled, and he wears an elaborated costume with nose and ear jewelry. The bowl sits atop a pedestal with rectangular base, the sides of the bowl adorned with looping flaps with spiked fringe and central bosses, the underside of the bowl hollow to allow for heating the contents, perhaps an offering. Ex S.H. collection, Santa Clara, CA; Ex Galeria Contici, FL; Ex Arte Primitivo, NY.
