**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Huari (Wari), ca. 700 to 1000 CE. An interesting example of a hand-carved wooden vessel in the form of a stylized male figure standing on delineated legs, with bent arms holding something - possibly a cup or musical instrument based on similar known examples - wearing a large collar or necklace ornamented with red shell inlays. The figure's large erect phallus is carved directly below his hands. His head features eyes made of inlaid shell and turquoise. An intriguing example from ancient Peru! Size: 1.15" W x 3.3" H (2.9 cm x 8.4 cm)
Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966
