Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. early 19th century CE. A very nice example of a kris (or keris) with a long, sinuous iron blade and a wooden handle. The curved handle, carved from a single piece of toffee-hued hardwood, is finely-detailed with a myriad of floral and petal-shaped motifs. The rounded handle base is separated from the blade by a hemispheric guard with a bead-like composition. The hammered iron blade has a gently-tapering, sinuous profile with a recessed midrib on both obverse and reverse. The sheath, comprised of a beautiful caramel-hued lightweight wood, has a broad top section and an elongated profile. It also has an exterior hammered brass jacket, with one side unadorned and the other with minute linear, dot-shaped, and floral engravings. Size with sheath: 18.25" L (46.4 cm).

Condition
Sheath has minor wear on wooden areas. Brass jacket has a small dent near the tip end, with minor oxidation and fading throughout. Blade has minor nicks, roughness, and wear to tip. Handle has use-related wear, light brown patina, and light deposits within recessed areas.
