Description
Java, Indonesia, ca. 19th century. Exceptional kris (keres) with a long, serpentine blade with Damascus steel blade, wooden handle in the form of a Jawa Demam, a deity depicted as half-bird, half-human, most likely a Garuda in a squatting position, yet similar to a Wayang figure with limbs held in front in a prayerful manner. Original wood and metal collar set with mine cut sapphires, sheath heavily incised in floral and geometric pattern. Lovely example! Size: 23" L x 6.5" W (58.4 cm x 16.5 cm)
