2 African wooden figures- 1.) Akan Peoples, Ghana- Akua'ba figure- wood. Wooden female figures were once used to help women conceive and bear healthy children; 2.) Yoruba People, Nigeria and Rep. of Benin- Oshe Shango- wood. This dance wand used in rituals honoring the thunder god, Shango, is quite unusual in featuring a kneeling male figure, rather than the more typical female or mother and child pair, likely meant to depict a priest of the deity. 10 1/4''; 20 3/4''
