**First Time At Auction**
Europe, ca. 16th century CE. Three huge keys with large, round grips, thick shafts, and different notches and bits. After the fall of the Roman Empire, locks and keys remained basically unchanged for 1500 years, and locksmiths created painstakingly ornate, often beautiful keys like these. Women of elite and middle class households were "keepers of the keys", often wearing a ring of keys on their belts. Size of largest (they are all close in size): 3" W x 8.1" H (7.6 cm x 20.6 cm)

Condition
All have dark patinas on their surfaces. The smallest has a small, stable crack where the handle meets the stem.
