Description
Splendid bone-decorated gun with wheellock and arquebus-type stock, long brass trigger guard, late 17th century. A shortened butt, not adapted for a shoulder rest and simply pressed against the cheek. Hunting or combat weapon of a privileged rider, designed to fight heavily armed cavalry. It was used as an alternative to a spear in knightly combat. Made as a forged faceted barrel, with an expensive wheel mechanism on a walnut lodgment, with decorative bone inserts.
