PRESSED CIRCLE AND ELLIPSE VASE, brilliant amethyst, large size, medium conical bowl with a gauffered six-petal rim, raised on a hexagonal double-knop stem and flared foot, single-piece construction. New England. 1850-1870. 9 1/4" H, 3 7/8" DOA rim, 4 1/2" DOA foot.
Shallow chip to underside of one foot corner, some interior residue.

Provenance: Property from the estate of Dr. Stephen Goodyear, Charlottesville, VA.

Catalogue Note: Dr. Stephen Goodyear was the son of Anson Conger Goodyear, the first president of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Like his father, Dr. Goodyear was a devoted collector of fine art and antiques.
