A Large Maya Incised Cylinder Vase
c. 600 - 800 AD
The elegantly tapered vessel raised on a shallow circular pedestal, the body carved with two panels etched and painted depicting a seated jaguar wearing a large ornament at back of head, a pectoral on chest, and their tails raised up and fluffed out. Two vertical columns each with glyph incised in dark red. Remains of blue pigment on shallow pedestal. Assembled from many original pieces, especially visible on the bottom, most repairs concealed with in-painting. Extensive surface losses and some minor chips.
