CIVIL WAR ERA 36-STAR AMERICAN NATIONAL FLAG, machine- and hand-sewn, hoist inscribed "Whitman Home Guards / 1st Reg", bold, oversized, double-appliqued cotton stars on a navy blue wool two-piece canton, 13 red and white wool stripes, applied fringe edge, likely original linen hoist. Unframed. Circa 1865. 65" x 78" OA.
Excellent overall condition with minor wear, discoloration, and losses.
