Appomattox apple tree relic. Presented on period card stock, mat, and frame. Inscribed caption reads: "Shavings of the Appomattox Apple Tree."
A unique relic from the surrender of General Robert E. Lee to General Ulysses S. Grant. Composed of shavings of the apple tree under which General Lee rested, awaiting the reply to his offer of truce. The shavings are affixed to a card gilt-lettered "Peace" in the shape of a flagpole, atop which is affixed a small paper American flag. An attractive relic housed in its original mount and frame.
