Ancient Egypt, Middle Kingdom, Second Intermediate Period, to early New Kingdom, 12th to 19th Dynasty, ca. 1991 to 1189 BCE. A rare lapis lazuli scarab with a blank base. Lapis was a symbol of the night sky, and was revered in this culture. Also, Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom to Third Intermediate Period, 18th Dynasty to 25th Dynasty, ca. 1549 to 653 BCE. A pair of glazed faience scarabs, both pierced for suspension, one with a blank base and one with a symbol of an ankh on its underside. Size of largest (one of the faience ones): 0.5" W (1.3 cm)
Provenance: ex Hank Johnson collection, Denver, Colorado, USA; ex HD-Enterprise, Denver, Colorado, USA, acquired from the estate of Philip Mitry, Cairo, Egypt, collected in the 1950s
