Ancient Egypt, Middle Kingdom, 11th to 14th Dynasty, ca. 2061 to 1690 BCE. Two striking scarab amulets. The first, a turquoise faience glazed steatite scarab, has a blank base and is pierced laterally for suspension. The second, a rare white opaque quartz scaraboid with a blank base, also pierced for suspension, made to be worn as a protective amulet by the living, signifying the possibility of rebirth. Size of largest (they are very similar in size): 0.6" W (1.5 cm)
Provenance: ex Hank Johnson collection, Denver, Colorado, USA; ex HD-Enterprise, Denver, Colorado, USA, acquired from the estate of Philip Mitry, Cairo, Egypt, collected in the 1950s

Both are intact, with wear commensurate with age. The quartz one has some encrustation in the lower profile areas.
