Description
**Originally Listed At $200**
Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic period, ca. 712 to 332 BCE. A pair of scarab amulets: one made of white steatite, with hieroglyphs incised on its underside, and one made of a reddish / brown amethyst with a smooth underside. Both have holes drilled through them laterally for suspension. Amulets of the scarab were hugely popular for over a thousand years in ancient Egypt, a symbol with staying power similar to that of the Christian cross; they seem to have been worn and carried by the living, although by the time of the Third Intermediate Period, they had also become part of the increasingly elaborate battery of items to be placed into graves for protection of the dead. Size of largest (amethyst): 0.65" W (1.7 cm)
Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex London, United Kingdom collection
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.
