Description
Northern Europe, Viking, Anglo-Saxon, or possibly other Germanic, ca. 7th to 9th century CE. A giant iron double-headed axe with a long, hooked blade on one end and a more traditional axe head on the other. In the center is a socket for attachment to a wooden pole, with decorative flares extending above and below the body of the axe. A brutal, heavy weapon - imagine the strength required to wield this! Size: 16" W x 7.75" H (40.6 cm x 19.7 cm); 8.3" H (21.1 cm) on included custom stand.

Small losses from edges of blades; otherwise in excellent condition for an iron weapon. With oxidized patina. Iron has been stabilized for conservation.
