Miniature painting with colors and gold on paper. Northern India, Kashmir, around mid-19th century
Rama, another incarnation of the god Vishnu, is fighting the demon-king Ravana, whose arms grow back after being cut off, with his axe in this lyrical, decorative and finely painted work. The bovinegoddess Sabala is in the background. The decorative border is very delicate and detailed. The right page features a floral composition in the form of a tree, several birds, two of which have horses' heads!
Dimensions: 14.2 x 18.3 CM
Condition: Minor signs of wear in the middle of the sheet - overall good condition
