Details: 7pcs New England Americana ANTIQUE CONNECTICUT BOSTON PROVIDENCE NEWSPAPERS 1768-1793 Benjamin Franklin Boston Chronicle

This group features 7 antique newspapers from New England dating between 1768 and 1793. The newspapers include: "The Boston Chronicle" dated January 7-11, 1768; "The Continental Journal and Weekly Advertiser" dated April 22, 1784; "The Providence Gazette and Country Journal" dated December 10, 1785; "The New-Haven Gazette and the Connecticut Magazine" dated March 29, 1787; "The United States Chronicle: Political, Commercial, and Historical" dated May 13, 1790; "Dunlap's Daily Advertiser" dated January 18, 1791; and "The Worcester Gazette" dated August 1, 1793.

One of the more notable articles in this group of newspapers is an excerpt from a letter published in the May 1790 issue of "The United States Chronicle" which features parts of the will of the recently deceased founding father Benjamin Franklin. In it, Franklin leaves President George Washington "a cane with the Figure of Liberty, merely to pay him a very handsome compliment, of leaving Liberty in charge to him."

Additionally, this group features an issue of the short-lived newspaper "The Boston Chronicle," the first semi-weekly publication in Boston. A colonial American Loyalist paper published by John Mein, "The Boston Chronicle" was only in production from December 21, 1767 to October, 1769 when it was ransacked by angry Bostonian revolutionaries.

Please attend our live sale to view these newspapers and other interesting ephemera in person.

Condition / Notes: These newspapers display typical indications of age and wear including toning, marginal chipping, and fading print or light soiling. The text is legible through nearly the entirety of every paper.
