Description
Two-piece olive green silk, boned high-neck bodice having long, full sleeve gathered into cuff, bodice overlay of black lace with an insert of cream embroidered net, back trimmed with olive cording over small peplum; trained skirt having tucks and silk cord decoration, long train, taffeta underdress. Purchased at Christie's Auction July 11, 1967. See tags. Helen Larson called this auction the "Queen's Auction" due to so many objects with royal provenance in the sale. The ensemble was part of a larger group of objects. The majority of the following dresses were the property of the late Princess Marie Elizabeth of Wied of Schloss Monrepos, Neuwied (b. 1880); many earlier dresses belonged to her grandmother, Princess Louise of Prussia". Petersham label "Fanny Gerson, Wiesbaden", B-38, W-32 L-46-62. (Skirt has sizeable pink stain to one hip and few smaller stains, small abrasion, underdress completely shattered, large underarm stains) fair.
