Item Details
Description
Probably worn by Princess Louise. Oyster silk having boatneck edged in tiny pleats above a ruched band of aerophane, the bodice draped with a swag of self pleats rounding the shoulder and fastening at back beneath drawstring neckline, voluminous sleeve with self wings at shoulder tapering into a cuff with petal shapes and self piping, pleated skirt set into high waistband with separate belt, padded hem with small train, B-36, W-25, L-56. Purchased at Christie's Auction July 11, 1967. Helen Larson called this auction the "Queen's Auction" due to so many objects with royal provenance in the sale. The ensemble was part of a larger group of objects listed as follows; "The majority of the following dresses were the property of the late Princess Marie Elizabeth of Wied of Schloss Monrepos, Neuwied (b. 1880); many earlier dresses belonged to her grandmother, Princess Louise of Prussia". (Scattered light spots and minor holes, few small holes in aerophane, hemline soiled) good.
