Description
Steel blue satin having darker blue and gold floral sprays on an abstract ground, high-neck boned bodice decorated with satin ruffles, cream lace bands and lace flower heads, trained skirt with plain satin front panel flanked by lace and ruffles, skirt lined in taffeta with small bustle pad and hem ruffle. Lot 136, purchased at Christie's Auction July 11, 1967. Helen Larson called this auction the "Queen's Auction" due to so many objects with royal provenance in the sale. The ensemble was part of a larger group of objects cataloged as follows: "The majority of the following dresses were the property of the late Princess Marie Elizabeth of Wied of Schloss Monrepos, Neuwied (b. 1880); many earlier dresses belonged to her grandmother, Princess Louise of Prussia", B-38, W-30, L-45-64. (Scattered holes in wool hem binding) excellent.
