Description
Ancient Near East, Sumeria, ca. late 2nd to early 1st millennium BCE. A ceramic mold used to make relief plaques or friezes of a priestly figure. The figure stands in profile, one hand raised as if gesturing as he speaks. He wears the elaborate layered clothing that Sumerian men are always depicted with, as well as a large beard and a conical hat. This piece gives us a fascinating glimpse into the methods used to create Sumerian art. Size: 2.75" W x 4.65" H (7 cm x 11.8 cm); 5.95" H (15.1 cm) on included custom stand.
